St David's Children Society is committed to offering ongoing support to families. We recognise that Adoption is a life long commitment.
October 2004 saw the introduction of new regulations regarding adoption support services. The recent legislation requires that new streams
of services are made available based on a local authority assessment of the family's support needs. Such services will include:
The support that St. David's makes available for every adoptive family will reflect their different needs, and includes the following:
- Access to the post approval support group, which meets every 12 weeks.
- We always try and ensure that a social worker is available on the end of the phone, no matter how long ago the adoption order was granted.
- We will assist you in accessing support from other services, which are available for all families within the community.
- We are able to offer some support in relation to contact arrangements and undertake the role of exchanging information via a birth family and the adopted child, via a letter box system.
- We work alongside other agencies such as After Adoption and BAAF, and liase with our own sister agencies throughout the UK.
Services to adopted adults
We continue to provide the following service:
- A counselling service to all adopted adults who have been adopted via this agency, and who wish to trace their origins.
Services to birth relatives.
- Advice and support for birth relatives who may wish to update information in readiness for adoptees who may choose to access this information.
